Discover the beautiful Tuscany and its historical cities
Florence (Firenze)
Florence (Firenze), the capital of Tuscany, attracts many tourists all year round. The three centuries of almost uninterrupted rule of the powerful Medici family ensured that Florence remained the cultural and intellectual center of Europe until about 1730.
Pisa
Of course, Pisa is best known for its Leaning Tower, but there are other notable buildings in Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles). It is interesting to know that Pisa was located on the coast in the Middle Ages and was an important port city.
Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre (also known as the Five Villages) consists of five villages along the Italian coast near La Spezia in Liguria. The villages were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
Lucca
Most tourists overlook this small town, but the relatively quiet town of Lucca is definitely worth a visit! The rectangular street pattern allows for a well-organized tour. The medieval centre is almost car-free.
Volterra
Volterra is an Italian town in Tuscany, in the province of Pisa. It was founded by the Etruscans and is located on a hill overlooking the surrounding hills. The Duomo di Volterra is built in the Romanesque style.
Viareggio
Viareggio is a town in the western Italian region of Tuscany in the province of Lucca. The city enjoys an international reputation as a seaside resort on the Ligurian Sea. A visit to the port with its beautiful yachts and boats is very impressive.
Portofino
Portofino is a small Italian town on the Italian Riviera in the province of Genoa. Its port is considered one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean. The city is said to have been founded by the Romans and was given the name Portus Delphini, "City of dolphins", due to the large number of dolphins that inhabited the gulf.
